Dr Jannis Matkovic, LL.M.

As a specialist solicitor in construction and architectural law, I advise and represent parties to construction, property development and architect/engineer contracts on all matters relating to private construction and architectural law. My clients include, in particular, small and medium-sized enterprises, property developers, architectural and engineering firms, and purchasers of property development projects.

My areas of practice and qualifications include, amongst other things

• drafting construction, property development and architect/engineer contracts with the aim of preventing disputes and establishing a legally secure framework,
• the out-of-court enforcement of my clients’ interests, and
• representing my clients in court proceedings.

I have particular expertise in the drafting and execution of property development contracts. I also have many years’ experience in defending architects and engineers against liability claims, in collaboration with their liability insurers. Furthermore, as part of my doctoral thesis – which was awarded the Research Prize by the Deutscher Baugerichtstag e.V. – I have acquired extensive expertise on issues of consumer protection within construction contract law.

Cases involving construction and architectural law are often characterised by particular complexity and a large number of parties involved. The path to the best possible outcomes therefore often does not lie in rigid and confrontational dispute resolution, but rather in the negotiation and implementation of amicable solutions. To this end, I develop and pursue individual approaches in close cooperation with my clients, taking into account the specific circumstances of each individual case. Should litigation become necessary, I conduct it with the requisite rigour and readiness to engage in conflict.
